NHS, health and care organisations and voluntary and community organisations are working together across South Yorkshire to

Why are we working together?

South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw’s health and care workforce provide services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To support our teams to continue providing excellent care we need to invest in them and our future workforce.

We employ over 48,000 members of health and care staff who work to meet the needs of 1.5 million people in our system, and this figure is boosted by those working for independent or private health and care organisations as well as all of the roles in voluntary and community sector organisations.

We work together in South Yorkshire with Health Education England (HEE) and NHS England to support our partner organisations via a range of programmes, which support the national ambitions set out in the NHS People Plan.

We aim to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do so that we maximise the skills and expertise of our workforce and wider community.

You can read more about our work across South Yorkshire. As set-out in our Five Year Plan (2019 – 2024) we aim to tackle existing or planned workforce shortages through a range of programmes that support:

  • Strong supply routes (schools, universities, and promoting health and care careers to secure the workforce of the future)
  • Upskilling our workforce
  • Introduction of new roles such as trainee nurse apprenticeships and physician associates
  • New ways of working to deliver an integrated workforce culture, focused on patient centred care
  • Supporting individuals, organisations and systems with leadership development
